Invest in Independence

Why?

Firstly, enabling independence for ambulatory wheelchair users is life changing and by achieving that for one person, our job is done.
Secondly, the need for mobility items including wheelchairs and rollators is growing by 6% annually, but the need for more appropriate devices is even more important. As an example, the cost of falls to the UK Government and NHS is £2.3 billion a year.
We have the knowledge and platform to do something about that!

The Current Landscape

The NHS provides for disability; however, the needs of ambulatory wheelchair users appears to be sidelined in favour of more high end business ventures, including electric wheelchairs and carbon fibre offerings.  Available capital and return are inextricably linked to the SMEs and start-up ventures that may otherwise provide the potential for disrupting a well-established market for cost effective devices. Our combination of frugal innovation and clinical principles aims to provide an alternative landscape for ambulatory disability.

Active Ageing

The market for mobility items increases with our ageing population and so does the potential to apply effective clinically based innovation strategies in this space, by including an increasing  bandwidth of stakeholders.

The Physical & Psychological decrease in an ageing population correlate to an increased risk of falls and this is the focus of our next stage addition to the codi™  platform.

Frugal Innovation

Cost effective focused devices, to satisfy clear identified usability criteria to support ongoing health improvements and muscle strength. This is our approach to creating a positive health spiral. Through clinical and frugal design strategies we are addressing some of the issues contributing to poor health outcomes and costs to the NHS, including the implications of a forced sedentary lifestyle and the well documented  health issues experienced by care givers, particularly back strain, which is currently costing the NHS £119 million annually.
